Course Description:

Washington’s tax landscape continues to evolve, and the state’s new Millionaires Tax creates important considerations for tax professionals advising high-income individuals and their businesses. This two-hour mini seminar provides a practical examination of the tax, who may be subject to it, what income is included, and the planning and compliance issues practitioners need to understand.

Participants will explore the structure and application of Washington’s Millionaires Tax, including applicable thresholds, taxable income considerations, sourcing issues, filing requirements, and the interaction with other Washington and federal tax rules. The seminar will also highlight potential planning opportunities, common areas of confusion, and issues tax professionals should be prepared to discuss with affected clients.

Designed with the practicing tax professional in mind, this seminar will help participants better understand the new requirements and identify the questions they should be asking when working with high-income Washington taxpayers.

Course Objectives:

By the end of this seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose, structure, and key provisions of Washington’s Millionaires Tax.
  • Identify taxpayers who may be subject to the tax based on applicable income thresholds and requirements.
  • Determine which types of income and gains may be included when calculating the tax.
  • Explain relevant Washington residency, sourcing, and reporting considerations.
  • Identify how the Millionaires Tax may interact with other Washington and federal tax considerations.
  • Recognize potential planning opportunities and considerations for affected individual taxpayers.
